In 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit – and devastated – Louisiana. The impact reached far beyond the state’s borders, encouraging people across the world to help with relief efforts. Through the company I co-own with Ryan Michael, Turning Point Entertainment, we planned the Rock to Rebuild charity concert.
Thankfully, businesses and individuals willingly dedicated their time & donated their money while local bands offered up their talent. While guests rocked out & had fun, we were all helping to rebuild after Katrina. That year, we raised more than $4,000 to donate to the American Red Cross & Habitat for Humanity.
Three years later, Ryan & I thought we’d try to recreate the success we had with Rock to Rebuild – that’s when Foodstock was born. Planned for the Saturday right before Thanksgiving, we figured it was perfect timing to help people in need. That first year, Foodstock raised more than $4,000 plus canned food items to donate to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. Over the next three years, Foodstock was just as successful. Overall, we’ve raised more than $20,000 in donations for charity.
Now, Foodstock 5 is right around the corner. It will be held at The Chance in Poughkeepsie on Saturday, November 17th. Doors open at 5 p.m. & bands start at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 & can be bought either in advance or at the door.
For details about who’s playing & what our bands had to say about donating their time & talent for charity, read this Poughkeepsie Journal article about Foodstock 5:
If you can’t attend the concert but still would like to make a donation, please make checks payable to “CFDC/Foodstock Fund” & mail them to Community Foundation of the Hudson Valley, 80 Washington Street, Suite 201, Poughkeepsie, NY, 12601.
