For as many times as you’ve heard, “Don’t drink & drive!” you could probably never hear it enough, especially if you’ve gotten behind the wheel after a drink or two… or more. Preaching anything tends to get ignored, but when it comes to driving under the influence, we’d rather risk being annoying than not deliver the information.
It’s important to stay on top of the ever-changing DUI and DWI laws. Today, mandatory DUI sentencing is much more common than it used to be. Whether you’re facing jail time or just the loss of your license (which is still bad & life-changing, but preferable to time behind bars), it’s important to fully understand the consequences of drinking and driving.
New to the DUI punishment scene is ignition interlock, which several states are already making a requirement for first-time offenders. Before the car can be driven, the operator has to breathe into the device. These devices work regardless of who’s driving your car and they have to remain on the car for a minimum of seven months. And they’re expensive. Read more about the ignition interlock here.
